What is hemodialysis and Blood purification?

How is hemodialysis performed?
TTo perform dialysis, a specialized catheter needs to be placed. The procedure then involves removing a small amount of blood from the patient, passing it through a filter to remove toxins, waste products, and excess fluids, and returning the filtered blood to the patient. Depending on the underlying cause and response to treatment, multiple treatments may be required over a period of days/weeks.
Where is hemodialysis performed?
Typically this procedure is performed in a hospital setting with trained staff and requires specialized equipment and monitoring in order to ensure the patients safety during the procedure.
Will hemodialysis be painful or stressful for my pet?
Usually dialysis is well tolerated and there is minimal stress for the patients. They will be continuously monitored by staff during the procedure.
Will hemodialysis “cure” my pet?
Although dialysis can be a life-saving treatment which helps to stabilize the kidneys and improve the quality of life of the patient, it cannot cure kidney disease. These patients will need to continue dialysis unless their kidneys are able to recover, although this does not always happen.
