Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE)

  • TPE (Therapeutic Plasma Exchange) is a medical procedure used to remove certain antibodies, toxins, and other pathological substances from the blood circulation of patients with immune diseases, drug overdoses, and/or poisoning.

  • A catheter is inserted into the patient, and their blood is passed through a filter. The filter separates out the plasma. Once it is removed, new plasma is returned to the patient

  • Neuromuscular disease

    Immune-mediated disease (anemia and thrombocytopenia)

    Toxins

  • TPE should be consider as a frontline treatment for severe immune-mediated hemolytic anemia
